08.11.2007. Keikka tai siis ELÄMYS oli ja meni 29.10. ja avasin sille ihan oman sivun eli Rush Helsingissä. Neil Peartin kotisivuilla oli kans uutta stooria S&A-kiertueen Euroopan osiosta, johon Suomikin kuului. Laivalla oli ollut fantsua, mutta herrat jo sikaväsyneitä ja loman tarpeessa. Siksi se Neilikin siellä keikalla ilveili ;-)

28.10.2007. Snakes & Arrows -kiertueen vuoden 2007 finaali lähestyy! Rush on jo Skandinaviassa ja huomenna klo 20 Hartwall-areenalla räjähtää! Ai että mä olen fiiliksissä, eihän tätä olekaan odotettu kuin 17 vuotta!

S&A -kiertueen settilista on ollut pitkälti tämän näköinen, joten samoja ihania veisuja odotettavissa meilläkin. Rushin ensimmäinen keikka Suomessa, mutta ei toivottavasti viimeinen. Itselläkin ensimmäinen Rush-konsertti ja samat sanat siinäkin - toivottavasti ei viimeinen! Hartwall-areena, ma 29.10.2007: Seitsemän veljestä helevetin peräseinällä (katsomo 117, rivi 8, paikat 101-107).

Rush julkaisee kiertueelta myös DVD:n, joka on kuvattu 16.-17.10. Rotterdamista. Pakko-ostos!

Keikalla luvassa paljon S&A:n biisejä, joten kannattaa vielä tsekata miun tekemä syväanalyysi levystä.

06.05.2007. Snakes & Arrows ilmestyi Suomessa virallisesti 2.5. ja jotkut onnelliset pääsivät kuuntelemaan levyä jo vappuaattona. Itse sain levyn postin kautta Levykauppa X:stä 2.5. Levy on mahtava! Varsinaista arvostelua en ole vielä väsännyt, mutta sen tulen sit aikanaan julkaisemaan täällä. Siihen asti voi käydä lukemassa juttuja levystä TNMS:n Suomi-palstalta, jossa olemme mm. jo pitäneet S & A -kuuntelusynkkiä (yhtäaikaista kuuntelua ja levyn kommentointia kukin tahoillamme). Eli sinne vaan!

Tuossa edellisessä kirjauksessa 21.04. mainitsin Bittorrent-ohjelman, mutta vaihdoin itse tuon BitCometin pian parempaan eli Azureukseen. ADSL-modeemin konfigurointiin meni tosin aikaa, ennen kuin sain toimimaan moitteetta, mutta sain sieltä hankittua mm. tämmöisen DVD-bootlegin. Nyt kun ois vielä aikaa kattoa se

Rush valmistelee kesän ja ensi syksyn kiertuetta antamalla haastatteluita ja julkaisemalla pätkiä biiseistään sekä ennakkomyymällä tulevan Snakes & Arrows -levyn eri versioita (CD tai DVD-audio) virallisilla kotisivuillaan. Haastatteluihin löydät linkkejä mm. TNMS:n suomenkieliseltä foorumilta: T.N.M.S. – Signals – General Chat Finnish  Tuo on kyllä mahtava paikka, sinne vaan kaikki lukemaan! Itsekin olen todennut, että viimeinkin on löytynyt paikka, jossa voi olla toisten Rush-fanien joukossa oma itsensä ja kirjoittaa vieläpä suosikkiyhtyeestään suomeksi! Periaatteessa TNMS:n suomi-foorumi siis mitätöi koko Rushfanin shaitti -sivuston merkityksen, mutta kai tämä paikka pitää säilyttää edes "kotisatamana", kun eihän sitä koskaan noista foorumeista tiedä, mitä niille tapahtuu tai ainakaan se ei ole omissa käsissä. Siispä jatkan paasaamista täällä, jos/kun koen sen tarpeelliseksi. Pääasiassa minut löytää kuitenkin jaarittelemasta Rushista Rushin suomalaisten fanien kanssa tuosta em. linkistä...

Enkä tiedä, onko näiden bootlegienkaan levittäminen laillista, vaikka niistä ei mitään taloudellista hyötyä kukaan menetäkään, koska rakkaat artistimme Rushissa saavat kuitenkin tuloja keikoilla käyvistä ihmisistä sekä virallisista julkaisuistaan, joita muuten varsinkin Rush-fanit tuntuvat ostavan aika kattavan kokoelman jokainen. Faneille ei vaan tunnu riittävän pelkät viralliset julkaisut, vaan kaikki muukin kiinnostaa!

26.03.2007. RUSH SUOMEEN!!! Historiallinen tapahtuma Hartwall Areenalla maanantaina 29.10.2007. Mahtavaa...olen lähes sanaton. Eipä tässä muuta sanottavaa ole, kuin että liput hankittava heti, kun tulevat myyntiin maanantaina 16.04.2007. Lippupalvelun verkkopalveluun tuli jo rekisteröidyttyä ja näyttipä semmoinen piste olevan Kajaanissakin. Kaverit kutsuttu mukaan, vaimolle ilmoitettu...pitkää odotusta helpottanee vain toukokuussa ilmestyvä albumiuutuus ja tieto siitä, että elämässä on ehkä paljon tärkeämpiäkin asioita kuin Rushin keikka, mutta se on silti unelma, joka odottaa toteutumistaan...huhhuh, hienoa, upeata, aijaijai!

13.3.2007. Far Cry nyt kuultavissa kokonaisuudessaan www.rush.com –saitilla. Kirjoitin tämmöisen ensimakusteluarvion Progol Forum
-keskustelupalstalle: Biisi alkaa mielenkiintoisesti Geddyn alkaessa hoilottaa tulee mieleen Vapor Trails, kuten myös siitä jostain Alexin kitarajutusta (minä en ole muusikko, joten puhun aina vaan jutuista ja fiiliksistä ) ja ylipäätään "tukkoisista"/täyteenahdetuista saundeista (minun korvaani...), mutta silti tästä tulee hyvä fiilis - ei mitään vastareaktioita kuten esimerkiksi edellislevy Vapor Trailsin avanneesta One Little Victorystä. Lisäksi biisi alkaa myöhemmässä vaiheessa svengata ja jalka vipattaa. Silti, toivon mä, että levy ei ole Vapor Trails -toisintoa...

15.02.2007. Rushin uuden levyn Snakes & Arrows julkaisupäivä 1.5.2007!!! www.rush.com -sivustolla on maistiainen tulevasta sinkkubiisistä Far Cry, joka on tosin niin lyhyt, että siitä ei voi paljon päätellä - paitsi, että se kuulostaa progehtavalta ja mahtavalta!

13.12.2006. Pitkästä aikaa päivityksiä näillekin sivuille. Seuraavista uusista linkeistä pääset lukemaan, mitä biisejä tuli valittua, ja millä "saatesanoilla", yhdelle Zeppelin-fanille tekemääni kolmeosaiseen Rush-kokoelmaan. Ai että oli taas pitkästä aikaa hauskaa plärätä levyt ajatuksen kanssa läpi, vaikka loppupuolella menikin vähän skippailuksi, jopa joidenkin kokonaisten levyjen. Pääasia, että sain kuunnella Rushia, joku muukin saa kuunnella Rushia ja sain kirjoittaa Rushista sekä oppia bändistä ehkä taas jotain uutta ja mielenkiintoista.

Niilo Pertti muuten oli jo kesäkuussa kirjoittanut sivuilleen juttuja uuden Rush-levyn teosta. Tässä pätkiä hänen jutustelustaan www.neilpeart.net -sivustoltaan, anteeksi vaan, että en taaskaan suomenna, mutta eipä kai se ole tarpeenkaan. Pääasia kuitenkin lienee, että bändi tekee uutta matskua ja ovat siitä innoissaan. Ehkä ensi vuonna jotain ilmestyykin - ja hei, sehän on ihan kohta! Tässäpä tämä:

June 17, 2006
My bandmates and I had decided to spend May working together in a Toronto studio, to refine some of the songs we had worked on long distance over the winter, and hopefully to write some new ones. The small studio was located in an old waterfront area, just a block or so from Lake Ontario, a remote little corner sidelined by more modern dock facilities elsewhere. The studio building itself had been a munitions factory around World War II, and out front, the wide boulevard of old warehouses was divided by abandoned railroad tracks. Rising above were the tall concrete cylinders of a concrete factory and the squat metal cylinders of petroleum storage tanks. Behind that industrial foreground, traffic moved across the elevated Gardiner Expressway, and above, in dramatic contrast, the modern skyline of Toronto’s downtown rose up shining, dominated by the CN Tower.

One afternoon the three of us and a couple of our crew members gathered by the glass doors to watch a thunderstorm loom in across that skyline, magnesium flares of lightning and simultaneous shockwaves of thunder. As I was passing by in the hallway, Alex called out, “Come on, we’re having a storm party!” and we all crowded into the entranceway, sheltered from the teeming rain, for a better view of the fireworks — “Wow, did you see that one?”

For most of the past six years I have lived in Southern California, where thunderstorms are extremely rare — the Mediterranean climate lacks the necessary cold fronts colliding with warm air masses — and I miss those spectacular displays of son et lumière.

When we weren’t busy watching thunderstorms, or eating lunch, we did a lot of work. I had a little room in a corner of the building where I could tinker with lyrics; Alex and Geddy were set up in the control room with guitars, computers, and vocal mic, and my drums were in the recording room. When I had had enough of struggling to put lyrical words together, I could escape to the drums and play along with rough versions of the songs when the guys were ready to hand them over. As I mentioned in the last report, I have been very enthusiastic about drumming lately, and I did find myself exploring new ways to put drum parts together, and new approaches to playing them. (Not really “new,” of course, but “new to me.”)

By the end of May, we had eight songs that we all liked, and I had worked out drum parts for six of them. So the work had gone well, but it had not been easy. This excerpt from an e-mail I wrote to my friend Matt Scannell tells an illustrative story of creative life, and makes a simply amazing segue into my next story . .

The actual work has gone pretty well, though not without angst. There was this one song . . .As he often does, Geddy had gone through a set of lyrics with some music he and Alex had “jammed out.” Along the way, he picked the lines that “worked,” and left out a bunch of others. Fine enough, of course, and that method often gives the words a new twist, but then it’s up to me to try to reshape the remains so it makes sense.

In this case, the song in question already had a scattered theme, and tenuous “sense,” and as I tried to stitch together the “new version,” I just couldn’t get it to mean anything. Or even to seem to mean anything. A little obscurity is fine, of course, but there has to be some kind of inner logic there for me. Like I said to Lerxst, “Even an abstract painting is supposed to be of something.”

So chipping away at that and getting nowhere was getting me down, and one day I found myself driving into work with a sense of dread, knowing I had to face that knotty mess again. I didn’t remember ever feeling that way about writing before, and all at once I fell into this “all washed up” state of mind, convinced I just couldn’t do it anymore, and I should just give up. (I’m sure you know the feeling — all songwriters do!)

And wouldn’t you know it? That day, I not only fixed up the problems with that song in a few minutes, but also started from scratch on another one that may well be the “masterpiece” of this album.

When I showed it to the guys, they were so enthusiastic I could hardly believe it, and ever since they have been all fired up to get the other songs tidied up and put away so they can get to work on music for this one.

So that changed my world!

Back at the end of May, at the end of our month together, I was driving from Toronto to Quebec for a few days’ rest, and I was able to listen to the songs we had been working on in the familiar, pleasurable space of a car cruising down the long, straight highway.

The next day I wrote to Alex and Geddy,

On the drive back yesterday, I did have the opportunity to listen to the new songs with some objectivity, in my favorite listening environment, and I wanted to tell you I think they are great! The freshest stuff we have done since — well, ever!

As I intuited when I first heard your song sketches, there is something very different about the character of these songs, and I’m really pleased by that.

I mean to say — at our ages!

NEWS

A new year beginning, and, I’m glad to report, plenty of new things to — well, plenty of new things to be glad to report!

First, on the Rush front, just this past week Alex and Geddy and I have started work on some new songs. Although we are 3000 miles apart, the two of them at home in Toronto and me in California, last week I received an e-mail from Geddy saying that he and Alex had spent the day in his home studio, and not only did they have fun, but they also thought they’d written something good.

A couple of weeks ago I had written to both of them that I had spent some time at my Quebec place in November, and decided to see if I had any lyrical “muscles” built up. With the first snows of winter whipping around outside, the lake beginning to freeze over during the cold, still nights, I spent five days sitting on the floor in front of the fireplace. A pile of papers grew in an ever-widening circle around me, and in the end — after much forehead-wrinkling and gnashing of teeth — I felt that I had about six half-decent ideas under construction. I wasn’t that confident they were any good, mind you, but I never am until the other guys respond to them. And anyway, those words won’t come alive until after the “little miracle” of hearing them sung for the first time.

So when Geddy told me that he and Alex were starting to work on some music, he also asked if I could send them some words to work with. I took a deep breath and sent off my “babies,” and now I’m waiting (somewhat anxiously) to hear their responses.

Speaking of “babies,” at the end of last year we sent our R30 DVD out into the world, and Hudson Music also released my Anatomy of a Drum Solo. It’s too early to tell yet, but so far they seem to be surviving pretty well in the cold, cruel world. You always hope so, but you never know. My friends seem to enjoy them, anyway, and that’s important.

I am planning to travel up to Canada later this month, to spend some time in Quebec working on the final revision of Roadshow: Landscape With Drums, A Concert Tour by Motorcycle (at the urging of my editor, Paul McCarthy, I am once again using both subtitles) and getting in some cross-country skiing and showshoeing during the brightest (some would say darkest) and snowiest days of winter.

Alex and Geddy and I plan to get together soon in person and make some serious plans for writing and recording this year. Hopefully we’ll also get together soon with guitars and drums. It’s increasingly difficult to work out a timetable that allows us to accomplish everything we want to do as a band, plus everything we want to do in our individual lives. But we’ve always managed to find a way, and surely will again. However we resolve that this time, the actual work is sure to take most of 2006 to accomplish, so although it’s encouraging to know that some new Rush music is in the works, no one should hold their breath waiting to hear it.

Friends and strangers have informed me they have heard there are plans for a Rush tour this year, but I can only say, “It’s news to me.” In reality, any tour dates in 2006 are unlikely — maybe next year.
As for the Roadshow story, it looks like the book will have a September publication now, which means I will have to knuckle down and get it finished by the end of February.

When I first began writing the book, this time last year, I spent February and part of March in Quebec, rising early to work on the book all morning, then closing up the computer at noon and heading for the snowy woods on cross-country skis or snowshoes. Home in the early winter twilight for a shower and maybe an hour’s nap, then a glass of The Macallan by the fire while I read over and correct the morning’s work. That schedule proved to be both productive and enjoyable, so I will hope to do the same this year — if the weather co-operates.

Speaking of which…


WEATHER

That’s easy — in Southern California this time of year, it’s mostly sunny and warm, with occasional torrential rains, and sometimes high winds, especially at night. Because I grew up in the east, where that combination is rare — winds usually fall at night, unless there’s a big storm — high winds at night still make me feel uneasy. Particularly those “devil winds,” the Santa Anas.

When I get to Quebec in late January, I hope for 3 or 4 feet of snow on the ground, with more falling every few days to “refresh” the ski trails and the scenery, and a temperature between - 5° and - 10° Centigrade. Perfect cross-country skiing conditions, and nice to look at out the kitchen window while I’m working.

And speaking of…


SPORTS

It occurred to me that my previous breezy comments about spectator sports might seem to express a kind of “snobbishness” about the subject. I would explain that the opposite is true. As I was telling my father-in-law over the holidays, when he insisted on watching a basketball game on Christmas Day, I am certainly not immune to the vicarious excitement of team sports.

There have been times when Alex and Geddy and I have been in the studio, for example, and I’ve gotten totally caught up in the hockey playoffs. During breaks in the recording, or while waiting to hear a mix, we would sit in front of the television, all anxious about something over which we had absolutely no control — and I would get all tense about the outcome.

And then after all that tension, there was no release — no reward. Inevitably, we were either disappointed by other people’s failure to win the game, or briefly elated by their victory. Even after a whole season of watching something that either tortures you with someone else’s failure, or even excites you with their transitory victory, you are left with… precisely nothing.

A few days ago I was hiking in the Santa Monica Mountains with South Park’s Matt Stone, and he was telling me that for him, growing up in the Denver area, everything had been centered on football. If the Broncos won on Sunday, his world would be a better place on Monday.
Matt and I were also talking about books, and he mentioned that he hadn’t been doing much reading lately. He held his hands out, thumbs extended, and mimed playing on his X-Box. And yes, I have shared that time-eating fascination too, in earlier generations of video games, and for me, I eventually decided that like team sports and other addictive activities, it was better avoided. Perhaps I’ve reached an age where anything that keeps me up all night probably isn’t good.

But there are so many other ways to spend my time.

Vähän iloisempia tunnelmia tuon Alex-jutun jälkeen. Q Magazine -lehdestä poimittua, jonka jätän suomentamatta, mutta todettakoon vain, että Thin Lizzy -mies Scott Gorham muistelee hassua kohtaamista Rush-miesten kanssa 1976 hotellihuoneessa, jossa huumori kukkii:

"On 17 April 1976, a funny thing happend to Thin Lizzy's Scott Gorham; his initiation into the strange world of Rush. The location was Pekin, Illinois, a small town 130 miles from Chicago. Rush were headlining a show at the Memorial Arena, with Lizzy as one of the supports.

Gorham figured he knew what to expect. Rush were a terribly serious band. They played complex virtuoso rock, wore silm robes on stage and had an amost professorial air. Their new album, 2112, a socio-political sci-fi epic, was on a different cerebral plane to the drinking and fighting songs on Thin Lizzy's latest record, Jailbreak. "We were street rock and they were on the progressive side," offeres Gorham. "I thought they'd be these really introverted, geeky guys."

He was in for a surprise. The laid-back Californian had witnessed some shocking sights during his tenure in Thin Lizzy. Some of it, he says, "went beyond human boundaries". But what Rush had in store for him was simply weird. It was a couple of hours after the show had ended when Gorham heard a knock at the door of his hotel room. Loaded on booze and weed, and busy entertaining two local girls, he cautiously opened the door and peered out. When Gorham saw the three figures standing outside, he nearly dropped his spliff.

Rush were dressed as characters from the late-'50's American sitcom Leave It To Beaver: guitarist Alex Lifeson as dad Ward Cleaver, his long hair slicked back, wearing a smoking jacket; bassist/vocalist Geddy Lee as mom June Cleaver, hair in pigtails, wearing a floral-print night dress; and drummer Neil Peart as son 'Beaver' Cleaver, in school uniform.

Gorham invited them into the room, where the trio began to act out scenes from the TV show, to the bewilderment of the two girls sitting on the bed. "At first we were all totally confused," recalls the Lizzy axeman. "We were stoned, and this was just so bizarre." By Gorham's reckoning, the act went on for 45 minutes, by which time he was laughing so hard there were tears rolling down his face. "Talk about an ice-breaker. I thought, Oh, that's what they're REALLY like."

...Even Scott Gorham was "blown away when he watched Rush playing the material (2112) live. "The musicianship was incredible," he remembers. "All that musicality, all the intricacies, and all that power from just three guys. The wasn't like all the pansy shit you'd hear from some progressive bands - they really powered down on it. We respected the hell out of them."

22.07.2005. Alex Lifesonin oikeudenkäynti käytiin loppuun 21.04.2005 Naplesin oikeustalolla Yhdysvalloissa. Tapahtumat, jotka johtivat Alexin ja hänen poikansa sekä miniänsä pidätykseen tapahtuivat jo uudenvuodenaattona 2003, joten kauan kesti tämä piina. Tiedote aiheesta (vapaa suomennokseni):

Alex Lifeson (Zivojinovich,) ei kiistänyt syyllisyyttään syytteeseen väkivallattomasta pidätyksen vastustamisesta Naplesin oikeustalolla. Sopimus tuomiosta tehtiin, kun tuomari kevensi syytteitä rikoksesta rikkomukseen. Justin Zivojinovich ei myöskään kiistänyt samaisia kevennettyjä syytteitä.

Syytteet nostettiin uuden vuoden aaton 2003 tappelusta Ritz-Carlton rantahotellissa, jossa Alex ja hänen poikansa ja miniänsä pidätetettiin syytettyinä tappelusta poliisien ja hotellin henkilökunnan kanssa. Alexia syytettiin apulaissheriffin työntämisestä alas portaita ja toisen apulaissheriffin naamalle veren sylkemisestä. Sekä Alex että hänen poikansa pidätettiin väkivaltaisesta pidätyksen vastustamisesta. Osana sopimusta sekä isä että poika saivat vuoden ehdollisen tuomion ja määrättiin maksamaan oikeudenkäyntikulut. Alex joutuu lisäksi maksamaan korvauksia, jotka määritellään myöhemmin.

"Tänään sulkeutuu vaikea ja tuskallinen ajanjakso perheeni, ystävieni ja minun elämässä. Joka tapauksessa aurinko paistaa taas ja se tuntuu hyvältä. Seuraavassa Alexin vähemmän tyytyväinen lausunto 10.06.2005 Rushin virallisilta rush.com -sivuilta. Itsesyytökset ja pelko tuomiosta ovat näemmä tuomion jälkeen muuttuneet katkeruudeksi koetusta huolimatta aiemman lausunnon kommenteista eteenpäin katsomisesta. Jätän tämän kuitenkin suomentamatta, lukekoon karua vuodatusta poliisien väkivaltaisesta toiminnasta englannin kielellä ken osaa :

"In like a lion, out like a lamb. These words appeared in a Naples Daily News editorial on April 27, describing the outcome of the criminal charges against my family and myself. After fifteen months of living in fear and anxiety, and the enormous physical and emotional toll that it took from all of us, the prosecution’s case began to crumble as the truth emerged and witnesses came forward to expose the behavior of these Collier County Sheriff’s Deputies and certain employees of the Ritz Carlton, a resort hotel reputed to be one of the finest in the world.

As that part of this ordeal came to a close, I thought to myself that more than anything, I wanted to get my life back on track. I thought I could accept the fact that I was punched in the face so hard it ripped the cartilage from my nose, fracturing the bone and shattering my septum. I thought I could accept the incredibly painful nasal surgery and weeks of recovery, and the discomfort I feel every night when I go to sleep. I thought I could accept the fact that I was Tasered six times, twice while lying face down in a growing pool of my own blood, and so severely that it burned bloody holes in my back. I thought I could accept watching my son get electrocuted numerous times as well, and erase the memory of his screams of pain and terror. I thought I could accept being imprisoned for two days without a phone call for over fourteen hours. I thought I could accept the innuendo of those who don’t know me and believed I was just some spoiled, drunken rock star. I thought I could accept watching my daughter-in-law, through a crack in the prison door, as tears streamed down her face because she was unlawfully jailed and separated from her two months old son. I thought I could accept the deep depression my wife, the woman I love without measure and who shares my soul, struggled through for months, fearing for her husband and son…what was I thinking?

Out like a lamb. All of that for nothing. All because of the bitterness of a few Ritz Carlton hotel employees on the most festive night of the year and their incredibly discourteous, arrogant and aggressive behavior of which I had never experienced in thirty years of travel. All because of three confrontational, intimidating, enraged deputies who wouldn’t even consider dialogue, who were so quick to reach for their Tasers and handcuffs when no crime was committed. All because of a prosecutors’ office blind to the reality of instances of excessive force by police and the horrendous destruction of innocent lives forever changed…what were they thinking?

In like a lion. The legal action we are embarking on now will hopefully bring attention to the fact that people cannot and should not be treated this way. I was fortunate to have the resources and will to fight to the end, but there are many who don’t and they will forever suffer from the forced compromise of an unfair plea bargain or the threat of sentencing guidelines that demand imprisonment, that hang over one’s head like the sword of Damocles. If some good is to come of this, then let it be that the actions of a tiny minority of aggressive, Taser wielding police officers don’t tarnish the reputation of the vast majority of officers who proudly serve their communities with honor and sacrifice. I sincerely believe they deserve our utmost respect, but respect is something that must be earned and not demanded with a closed fist or an electrifying weapon…that’s what I’m thinking."

17.02.2005. Vuosi on vaihtunut, eikä Alex ole vieläkään joutunut oikeuteen. On se mielenkiintoista tuo oikeus. Tässäpä viime aikojen Rush-kuulumisia, jotta näillä sivuilla olisi tarpeeksi turhaa tietoa joillekin, jotka täällä joskus vierailevat (eli yks Mervi ja öö, minä):
- 30-vuotisjuhlakiertue meni...ohi. Byhyhyy. Toivottavasti kaikilla oli kivaa, jotka pääsivät kokemaan.
- Linkit-sivulla on yksi uusi linkki, jolle kootuista tuotoksista tulee hyvälle tuulelle eli Rush-oddities.
- Rushin Feedback on edelleen Rushin uusin albumi...who cares!
- Rush keräsi rahaa Tsunamin uhreille ja Aasian jälleenrakennukseen CBC:n erikoisohjelmassa Canada for Asia. Ja hetihän se netistä löytyi. Ainakin täältä, jos ei oo jo kaatunut koko sivusto. Ohjelmassa kuultiin ensin Mike Myersin hehkutus, kuinka Rush kuten rakkauskin on universaali kieli, todellinen Kanadan suurlähettiläs maailmalla. Muisteli veljensä huutavan autotallibändinsä nimeä All The World's A Stage -livelevyllä. Tämän hehkutuksen jälkeen Rush hehkutti yhdessä kahden vierailijan kanssa Closer to the Heart -kappaleen, joka oltiin kuvattu livenä jossain studiossa, liekkö Rushin omassa. Ihan kiva oli nähdä heput iloisissa tunnelmissa. 
- Rush on Grammy-ehdokkaana parhaan rock-instrumentaalikappaleen kategoriassa. Kas kun ei vuoden huonoin hippifiilistely -kategoriassa koko Feedback -albumilla. Niin, se ehdokas on O baterista eli vanha kunnon Drum Solo soitettuna brasseille Brasiliassa brassisävyttein. Eli se on Baras. Siitä Rion keikasta puheen ollen - Rushin DVD rulettaa edelleen, vaikka sainkin joululahjaksi YUP:n ja Mokoman DVD:t. Rushilla edelleen Paras Videoitu Keikka Koskaan!!!
-  Yritin katsoa Dream Theaterin Japanin keikkaa, joka on julkaistu DVD:nä. Yritin katsoa sitä, koska mielestäni Dream Theater on ihan hieno yhtye, vaikka se kikkeli-aspekti joskus ottaa pattiin. Itse asiassa olen aina pitänyt enemmän Liquid Tension Experiment -projektista, jossa DT-miehiä soittaa ja jossa on hienoja instrumentaali-repäisyjä, heavyprogea parhaimmillaan. Mutta siis joo, DT:hän on tunnettu bändinä, joka syntyi, kun kolme tyyppiä huomasi pitävänsä samasta maailman hienoimmasta yhtyeestä - arvaatte varmaan mistä. No juu, sit kun yritin kattoa sitä keikkaa, niin eihän se rokannut yhtään, se on ihan kikkeliä. Kyllä Rush aina rokkaa kovemmin, vaikka oisivat kuinka niuhoja ihmisinä.

31.07.2004. Ajattelin vaihteeksi kasata Rush-kuulumisia, ettei jää nämäkään sivut ihan ilman turhaa tietoa:
- Rush julkaisi kesäkuussa Feedback-nimisen EP:n, jolla Rush kyllä rokkaa, mutta soittaa covereita! Huono idea, nimittäin minun sietokykyni kyseistä lättyä kohtaan kattoi kolme kuuntelukertaa, jonka jälkeen totesin, että '60-luvulta olevat coverit, jotka ovat Rush-miesten henkilökohtaisia suosikkeja ja vaikuttimia musiikintekoon, ovat kuitenkin jotain muuta, kuin Rush.
- Alexin oikeudenkäynti ei ole vieläkään pyörähtänyt eteenpäin. Poliisin sylkeminen ja väkivaltainen vastustaminen etenee seuraavan kerran ilmeisesti syyskuussa, jolloin Rushin pitäis olla Euroopassa...eli keikkoja saatetaan jopa joutua perumaan, vaikka eipä se minua haittaa, kun ei ole aikomus keikoille lähteäkään.
- Rushin fanit ovat keskustelupalstoilla kertoneet pääasiassa nauttineensa USA:n kiertueen keikoista, mutta jotkut muusikonplantut siellä vaan jaksaa aina valittaa, kuinka milloin kukakin teki kamalan mokan ja joku biisi meni ihan vituralle. Neil, tuo rumpujumalana pidetty, on varsinkin ollut suurennuslasin alla, mutta kai se nyt alkaa jo näkyä, että on ikää, ahdistusta ja keikattomuutta sen verran takana, että ei kai tuo ihme ole, jos välillä vähän mokaileekin. Se on inhimillistä, jota ilmeisesti ei voi hyväksyä rumpujumalalta.
- Rushin avauskeikasta Nashvillessä 26.5.2004 on ollut netissä jaossa bootleg, joka löytyy tiedostonjako-ohjelmilla mm. nimellä 2004-05-26.RUSH-30_Years_Strong.zip. Itsellänikin kyseinen keikka on vielä kuuntelematta, joten ei siitä vielä sen enempää.
- Rush esiintyy myös Toronto Rocks -DVD:llä, josta on ollut kans monenlaista mielipidettä, eikä läheskään kaikki kovinkaan ylistäviä - siis Rushin osalta. Itse imaisin netistä koko Rush-osuuden kyseisestä 30.07.2003 pidetystä Toronton Sars-hyväntekeväisyyskonsertista ja olihan se vähän semmoista ankeata mammuttifestarimeininkiä. Geddyn mikkikin vähän pätki, joten Alex lauleli sitten soittamisen ohessa toiseen mikkiin.
- Ja vielä viimeisenä: Sain taas palautetta näiden nettisivujen sisällöstä, mistä kiitos Juhis-nimiselle tyypille. Jos tätä lukee joku muukin Rush-fani, jolla on jotain painavaa sanottavaa/kommentoitavaa/korjattavaa, niin ottakaa vaan reilusti yhteyttä jmlbohem@hotmail.com

18.03.2004. Yhyy, olen päättänyt, että epävarmoista tekijöistä johtuen en osta lippuja Rushin Ruotsin keikalle...syypääksi koitui luottokorttiostos. Minulla on toistaiseksi luottokortti, mutta koska olen tällä hetkellä työtön ja korttini mitätöidään toukokuusta 2004 alkaen, niin korttini ei olisi enää voimassaoleva, kun olisin hakemassa lippua Globenista 29.9.2004. Eli lippua ei olisi saanut netin kautta varsinaisesti kotiin asti, tosin maksu olisi tapahtunut. En sitten tiedä, olisiko sillä mitään väliä, onko luottokorttini enää voimassa, kun lippua hakemaan menisin, mutta koska se ei kuitenkaan sitä olisi, niin homma on vähän epävarmalla pohjalla. Lipun olisi siis saanut sitten lunastettua sieltä Globenin lippukassalta luottokorttia vastaan keikkapäivänä...en tiiä, hermot meni sen nettipalvelun kanssa muutenkin. Hidas paska ja nurin koko aamupäivän. Sitten kun pääsin lipunostoon, niin hinnaksi olisi Globen-areenan 20. rivin kohdalta kahdelle lipulle tullut välitysmaksuineen 1110 SEK, joka on noin 125 EUR. Ei mahdoton hinta, mutta tietty siihen pitää laskea matkakulut ja hotelli, yht. 300 EUR. Nämä siis kahdesta lipusta ja kahdesta matkustajasta välillä Kajaani-Tukholma-Kajaani. Joo, semmoista. Perkele. Jos jaksais alkaa soitella Ruotsiin paikalliseen "lippupalveluun" ja kysyis ton luottokorttiasian sönkkäämällä enkkua, niin ehkä selviäisi, mutta en jaksa. Samaten ois sit pitänyt alkaa järjestellä sitä, että pojalla on joku hoitaja, kun vaimo ois siis ollut toi toinen keikkamatkustaja. Ja keikka on keskiviikkona eli matkaan ois pitänyt varata tiistai-torstai, eikä syksyn työtilanteesta tai muusta tiedä...Olkoon sitten. Luovutan. Kadun varmaan tätä sitten loppuelämäni...

Rush Ruotsiin! Tukholman Globenissa räjähtää 29.09.2004! Tsekkaa se ja muut Euro-keikat täältä. Lippuja Globeniin myydään ensin Rushin virallisten sivujen kautta linkitettynä 18.03.2004 klo 9 - 24 ja julkinen myynti alkaa maanantaina 22.03.2004.

Rushin 30-vuotis juhlakiertueen päivämääriä julkaistiin 18.2.2004. Niistä neljä viimeistä on Euroopassa. Syyskuun 8. Lontoossa Wembleyllä, syyskuun 11. päivä Birminghamissa, syyskuun 12. päivä Manchesterissa ja syyskuun 14. päivä Glasgowssa. Keski-Euroopan saati Skandinavian keikoista ei ole vielä siis mitään tietoa.

Rushin 30-vuotis juhlakiertue vuonna 2004 saavuttaa Euroopan! Rockline-ohjelmassa 10.12.2003 Geddy kertoi, että suunnitelmissa on noin 35 keikkaa Amerikan mantereella (ilmeisesti Etelä-Amerikka mukaan lukien) ja noin 10 keikkaa Euroopassa. Se ei ole monta, joten Suomi jäänee tälläkin kertaa kuvioista pois. Toivottavasti Euroopan kiertueella nähdään edes yksi Tukholman keikka, vaikka se voi kyllä olla aika pian loppuunmyyty, jos muut Eurokeikat ovat Englannissa, Saksassa ja Hollannissa suuremmissa kaupungeissa. Eli skandinaaveille sentään yks keikka, onhan sekin parempi kuin ei mitään.

Rushin tulevaisuudesta kantautui huhuja jo aiemmin. Geddy Lee kertoi mahdollisesta Eurooppaan tulosta Bass Inside -lehden haastattelussa jo alkuvuodesta 2003:

Geddy: ...It was the kind of tour that if you connected Europe immediately to the end of the North American leg, you can justify the expense of Europe because its part of an ongoing production, and you can deal with the costs. But to separate Europe out and take two months off and then get everyone back together, go back into rehearsals again… to do that was not anything people were willing to do. So, it’s unfortunate. The one regret I have about the Vapor Trails tour is that we did not go to Europe and I feel terrible about letting down our European fans. Partially, it was our error and partially it was just the fact that we could not predict how we would feel three months into the Vapor Trails tour. By the time we realized that we were strong enough to keep going, the Gods of Scheduling were just not cooperating. I do feel good that we hit two countries that we never played in before. Although we dissatisfied our fans in Europe, we satisfied our South American fans, so we accomplished something on that ground. I can promise that the next time RUSH tours, and I have no reason to feel there won’t be another RUSH tour, we’ll definitely make Europe more of a priority.

Soundi-lehti 12/2003 julkaisi kuitenkin vielä suuremman uutisen. Rush saatettaisiin nähdä vuoden päästä, eli syksyllä 2004 jopa Suomessa!!! Kyseisessä jutussa on haastateltu Alex Lifesonia puhelimitse. Tulossa on siis Rushin 30-vuotiskiertue, josta Alex kertoo Soundin mukaan: "Ja sen tiedän jo nyt, että ainakin Ruotsi kuuluu pitkästä aikaa kiertueaikatauluumme. Kenties saavumme ensimmäistä kertaa urallamme myös Suomeen." Olisipa se aivan käsittämättömän mahtavaa. Tukholmaankin toki melkeinpä pakko lähteä, jos se on lähin keikkapaikka. Ja Keski-Eurooppakaan ei olisi meikäläiselle liian kaukana.

Rush julkaisi loka-marraskuussa 2003 ensin 3 CD:tä käsittävän audioversion ja sitten kaksi DVD:tä käsittävän videon livekonsertista Rio de Janeirossa marraskuussa 2002. Loistavan DVD:n arvostelu erikseen näillä sivuilla.

Kyseisen kiertueen keikoista luin aivan mielettömiä arvosteluja - äijät olivat paremmassa vireessä kuin koskaan! Keikkojen kesto oli n. 2 t 45 min, jonka aikana nähtiin useimmiten seuraava repertuaari (ei välttämättä täysin samanlaisena kaikilla keikoilla):
